Brighton Freak Show

I'm taking part in Brighton Freak Show this May.

It's a group exhibition of illustrators, graphic designers and photographers based on the theme of Freak Show that's happening as part of Brighton May Festival.

The Exhibition will run every Saturday throughout May between 10am and 5.30pm.

At the moment I'm working frantically on a hand-drawn typography piece I'm intending to show there!

Winsor McCay

I've stumbled upon this amazing animation the other day. It was made in 1912...!!!

In contrast, I found this image also taken around 1912 in where I'm from.

Colour of Pomegranate

I've just watched this amazing film called "Colour of Pomegranate"by
Sergei Parajanov. It's so so so amazing / inspiring / beautiful ...etc etc everything....!!

I haven't seen a film as good as this one for a long long time but it does feel good to find a really really good film I would cherish for the rest of my life. I'm going to watch Sedmikrasky the second time soon so hopefully it's going to be as good as I remember!

Typography *NEW*

I've just finished this hand drawn typography piece and uploaded it on my portfolio website!

It was the first time for me to work on a hand drawn typefaces line of work so it was a bit of a challenge but I enjoyed creating it so much.

Rapunzel

These are editorial illustration I've just done for Rapunzel by the Brothers Grimm. I was originally only illustrating the story but I got inspired so much that now I'm working on hand-drawn type that says RAPUNZEL too!
I have never worked on hand-drawn types so it's a bit of challenge but am enjoying working on it. Can't wait to finish it now!

New work on yukomich.co.uk

I've just finished a new piece of pencil drawing and it's on my main website now!

It's called Nepenthes Triangle. It's drawn in the same style as Nepenthes Circle which I created in 2009.

Those Nepenthes pieces are inspired by embroideries of the Hmong tribes. Their embroideries are heavily based on the shapes you can find in nature such as flowers/birds/insects/leaves.
I incorporated those shapes in these pieces too and also applied pencil lines that resemble thread of embroideries.

The other new experimental piece 'Circles' is in colour! I really rarely use colour in my work but I thought, well I can't just live in the world of black and white for the rest of my life!

The original drawing I used for this piece was created in black and white in 2008 (or maybe 2007...? Well long long time ago that's for sure). I applied colour in this piece by layering scanned colour pencil swatch on top of the original drawing.

Huh one thing that came into my mind working on Circles.
