New work on yukomich.co.uk

I've just finished a new piece of pencil drawing and it's on my main website now!

It's called Nepenthes Triangle. It's drawn in the same style as Nepenthes Circle which I created in 2009.

Those Nepenthes pieces are inspired by embroideries of the Hmong tribes. Their embroideries are heavily based on the shapes you can find in nature such as flowers/birds/insects/leaves.
I incorporated those shapes in these pieces too and also applied pencil lines that resemble thread of embroideries.

The other new experimental piece 'Circles' is in colour! I really rarely use colour in my work but I thought, well I can't just live in the world of black and white for the rest of my life!

The original drawing I used for this piece was created in black and white in 2008 (or maybe 2007...? Well long long time ago that's for sure). I applied colour in this piece by layering scanned colour pencil swatch on top of the original drawing.

Huh one thing that came into my mind working on Circles.

Yukomich.co.uk update

My main website has been updated!
Now it's got more detailed information (development of the work etc) on each piece in the portfolio section.

I haven't been able to visit a print shop to make fine art prints of my work for a couple of days now because of this heavy snow... maybe tomorrow.... fingers' crossed!!

*** HAPPY NEW YEAR ***

The very first entry for the year 2010! It's snowing so much outside!

I've been working on a commission by Liberty through the christmas and new year, but finally it has been done and I'm having a little bit of time to catch up with my blog and website. Yes yes I am updating my website soon with new projects/more images/more of everything in general!

In the meantime, I've been looking at this shop called Labour and Wait online lately. I first ran into this shop of my dream a couple of years ago in Shoreditch and absolutely loved it! But then I forgot about the place until last month I paid a visit to ever so fantastic Dover Street Market and found that they have a corner right next to the cafe on the top floor!

The photos are from their shop. Huhhhhhhhhh I'd love to live in a place like this....!!!

Wallpaper* Graduate Directory

Wallpaper* magazine's 2010 Graduate Directory's been published on their website and I got listed!
So nice to be written about along with other amazing designers/artists. My dear course mates Ally Haigh, Richard Carey and Joe Wood also made it there. Happy :)

Please have a look from here!

I wish i had a computer with a bigger screen!
Unfortunately I had to cut the image of my work there at the bottom. I know I know it's nothing but still very very slightly heartbreaking to see my work cut like this. How naive am I...??

Paisley

Another new piece just completed a couple of days ago! It always feels nice to let my dear child go into public after a long long private time together!
I'm calling it Paisley...I know it's not quite what paisley looks like, but it's my interpretation of paisley thank you.
My work is normally black and white. I like the aesthetic of it and am naturally more attracted to black and white image. But I thought, wait, maybe I'm restricting myself only to black and white and not "expanding my horizon" enough! Huh huh such an art student I still am even though I'm officially a "graduate" now. It's done with colour pencils and pens on paper and it was nice to get back into using pens again after so long time of befriending only with pencils. Oh my Pilot Hi-Tec-C 0.3 was as nice to me as a year ago!

From The Woods

This is the new piece I've just finished and successfully scanned this afternoon!
It's called 'From The Woods'. I had this phrase in the poem The Gyres by Yeats in my mind while working on this piece which goes

Out of cavern comes a voice,
And all it knows is that one word 'Rejoice!'

I think the women are looking into the cavern. They want to embrace the voice but are also skeptical to the voice from the outside world. It's a bit like, they never thought about something like 'rejoice' in their lives because for them life's all about getting on with things they've got to do. Now all of a sudden this concept of rejoice gashed into their lives and they're a bit like, what are you talking about...?

It's on my main website now too. I did have a very productive day! (Have you noticed it's the second post of the day!!)
